I am in love with this Solid bar Horse & dog soap – I have been looking for an alternative to bottled products which contain artificial nasties for some time so decided to take on the challenge and launch our own brand of soaps. Our Horses and Dogs are our best friends, so it is natural we only want the best for them and don’t want to use harsh chemicals on their skin. (literally some shampoos have the same ingredients as floor cleaner!!!!)
We use Coconut oil as our main ingredient which makes a high foaming and highly cleansing soap. I kid you not this lather’s so well it is amazing. I find it so easy to wash my horse’s mane, because it is in your hand you can really scrub with it. Fabulous for getting right into the base of horse manes and tails and also scrubbing white socks. It is perfect for those muddy muzzles, precious paws and of course those dreaded patches of fox poo all dogs seem to love and Its great for greasy coats.
Coconut oil is well known for it’s natural anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. It contains Vitamin E and is an excellent moisturiser. All our Solid bar Horse & dog soaps contain free floating coconut oil within each bar, just enough to moisturise the skin without weighing down the coat.
Available in 2 sizes, 100g for 1 dog households, 200g Soap on a Ropes are perfect for multi dog households and hanging up in the stable yard.
We have 3 scents each with a slightly different purpose, but to be honest they all smell lovely.I am loving these so much I may experiment with more scents in the future.
Scents
Revive and Shine – Lavender, Lemongrass & Rosemary Essential Oils with Calendula to make that coat shine.
Clean & Calm – With Lavender Essential Oil & Black Poppy Seeds to sooth and calm.
Buzz Off – Citronella, Lemongrass, Spearmint & Peppermint Essential Oils, with White poppy seeds – to help fight off those Bugs and clean the coat and skin.
Now on to the questions I get asked most.
Why on a rope?
Our 200g soaps all come on a rope this is highly recommended for horses for a few different reasons, 1. While you are scrubbing away, soap can be slippery and you could be always picking it up off the floor. Not great if like me you get on a step to wash your horse!! Simply slip the rope around your wrist and your job will be so much easier. 2. When you have finished washing your horse and dog you need to hand it up to dry. So it is perfect for this. For our smaller soaps please use a soap dish.
What is it made of & Is it good for sensitive skin? Yes brilliant, Our soap does not contain any Parabens, SLS SLES or any artificial Surfactants or perfumes, the only ingredients are Coconut Oil, Water and Lye plus the scent ingredients of essential oils, which have beneficial properties. It can help itchy dog and horse and great for sensitive skin.
How do I use it? A very wet coat is essential, so really get your horse and or dog really wet. Put your wrist through the rope to save dropping it on the floor and rub directly onto the coat, use the bar itself to scrub. Get deep into the roots of the mane and tail and pay attention to any stains. It will lather up quickly. Rinse well, until the water runs clear – and you are done! Towel off our use a drying coat.
Can I use it on myself? You can if you want to, I do! However it does not have the necessary safety assessments for me to sell it for human use – that does not mean it is not safe but there are different soap recipes out there that I much prefer for human soaps that are far more luxurious on our skin.
How long does it last? As a guide 1 100g bar will bath 5 westie sized dogs.
How do I keep it between baths?
Allow it to dry out between baths, Hang up soaps on a rope, in an area that will be away from the elements to keep it dry, For the 100g soaps store these in a soap dish which allows it to dry. keep spare bars in a cool, dry place.
What is the shelf life?
Unlike us, your soap will get better and better with age, the longer you keep it the harder it will get and the longer it lasts. Because I use natural essential oils the outer scent will fade over time but as the bar is used the oils within are released. I have used soap that is well over 12 months old and it foams as beautifully as when it was first made, coconut oil has a lengthy shelf life meaning your soap will not go rancid within this period of time.
Which soap is best for my dog’s coat type?
All the soaps have the same base recipe, so the answer is any or all. whichever scent is your personal preference will be fabulous
Can I use it on different dogs? Yes you can – give it a good rinse between dogs for hygiene. You can also put it in a UV steriliser if you are a dog groomer and have one. If you have any concerns then cut your soap up – one bit for bums. One bit for faces – you get the picture.
Can I use it on Poodles and cockerpoos? Generally no – unless they are kept short. Cockerpoos and other poo crosses have quite specific coat care needs, they really do need a little more tlc and a conditioning product which sadly is not possible in soap bar.
Can I use it on cats? Most essential oils are toxic to cats so please don’t use our soaps on cats
Is it safe for my Horse or Dog to lick themselves if they have been bathed with it?
Yes – It is all-natural ingredients that are safe if your legged friend decided to have a lick of themselves or the bar, although I wouldn’t recommend them trying to eat it.
Why is it luxury?
Our Solid bar Horse & dog soap are only made from the highest quality plant ingredients and the essential oils are a real luxury treatment. It really is like a Dog or Horse spa treatment using this soap, add a sisal wash mitt massage in there and they will be in dog or horse heaven. Also, the fact it is handmade means that every care and detail has gone into making it a luxury product for your horse or dog and let’s face it they are worth it.
